Step 1 :- Head over to Http://www.ventrilo.com , then goto the downloads page and pick the download for your choice of computer. Make sure that if you have a vent server that you are just logging onto and not hosting that you download the client version of ventrilo. But if you are hosting the ventrilo server then download the Server Version, which is just below.
Step 3:- Start up ventrilo using one of the shortcuts. The first thing that you should do once ventrilo is open is to set up your user name and Phonetic (Fig 3. , Number 1) , to do this click the arrow button that corresponds to the User Name section. This brings up a dialog box which give you the options to create a user name and phonetic. Once you have chosen your user name and phonetic then click the OK button. Next click the arrow that corresponds to the Server section (Fig 3. , Number 2). This will bring up a dialog box which will give you the options to create a server name and give the server name the information you will need to connect to that server. Once you have created the server name , and you can have more than 1 server , but not at the same time. Then you need to add in the Hostname / IP Address , Port Number and the Password into the corresponding boxes. Once you have done all of the above , then you should be able to connect to the server of your choice. You do this by pressing the Connect/Disconnect button (Fig 3. , Number 3). The button under the Connect/Disconnect button is the Comment button (Fig 3. , Number 4) which allows you to add a small comment next to your name at the Number 7 position on the Fig 3. image. These comments are useful for including links and small helpful comments such as "gone afk" , "No Mic" etc...

Fig 3.
Under the Comment button is the Chat button (Fig 3, Number 5). The chat function is useful if you have a few people without microphones, because it in itself is a mini chat room. Finally, under the Chat button is the Set-up button (Fig 3, Number 6). The major points to look for on the set-up dialog box are the push-to-talk , and the inbound and outbound options on the voice tab. Click the push-to-talk check box and below choose a push-to-talk key. The push-to-talk key is the button that you will press when everything is set-up, so that you can talk. Otherwise you would be talking in vent whenever your voice was detected by ventrilo, which can be annoying and confusing. The Inbound slider option is what allows you to change the volume of other peoples voices , and the Outbound slider option is what allows you to change the volume of yourself , and how loud other people hear you. Then click ok and ventrilo should be fully set-up.
The last thing to point out from the image above (Fig 3. , Number 7) is the lobby area and the other channels. The lobby area is where you will always join to , and is usually where most people stay unless they want a private conversation or to move out of the lobby to not interrupt other people that are already having a conversation. You can move yourself into one of the other rooms on ventrilo by double left clicking on the room name. Unless it has a password , in which case you would have to enter a password into a dialog box which pop's up.
And that is how you Set-up and Use Ventrilo.
